1. HUMOR U TIP #189 – Are You Balanced or Lopsided? |
By Ann Fry Someone recently asked me if I was “balanced”—you know, did I have work/life balance in my life. I put my arms out and started bending from side to side, like a teeter-totter. He wanted to know how I defined work/life balance. Here’s what I told him (or at least wanted to): “It’s like—DUH—all about doing a lot of things, not rocket science.” Then he wanted to know whether balance is achievable or a myth. I wanted to say, “Guess what? You get to choose.” I call it "conscious choosing”—I get to say, “Hey, I’ve worked enough, now it’s time to play (or work out or clean the house or go for a walk, or whatever).” Then I get to say, “Hey, I’ve played enough, now it’s time to work.” What makes people think that balance is something out there and they have no say about whether it lives in their life? Funny how many people blame their lack of balance on everyone else, instead of the person they really need to blame—themselves. Balance makes all the difference in how you feel about work, how much fun you have in life, and your attitude in general. So stay balanced, at work and at home—and see how it adds laughter and joy to your life, and to the lives of those around you. Happy Memorial Day, end of spring, beginning of summer, etc. Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "CULTURES THAT WORK". Can you say...
