1. HUMOR U TIP #183 – Vacation While You Work

By Ann Fry

An article in the New York Times, titled “The Rise of Shrinking-Vacation Syndrome", discussed how people are taking fewer vacations. Cause: time, money, no vacation time, etc.
So, if the people won’t go on vacation, Humor U says, let’s take the vacation to the people— WHILE at work!

Here are some ideas:

  • Watch the ice cubes float in your glass, put a little umbrella in it, wear your flowery shirt and pretend you’re on the veranda in Jamaica.
  • Buy everyone in your neighboring cubes (no pun intended) one of those little hand electric fans.
  • Take splash breaks—on break, splash yourself with cold water to chase away the red face heat.
  • If your company has inside games (foozball or pool tables)—stay inside, but play the games.
  • Play Hawaiian music in your cube and do the hula.
  • Wear your hiking boots—walk up and down the stairways.

For real—be creative. Get a group of co-workers and establish the “Vacation Fun” committee; come up with awesome, cool ideas and send out a sheet of events for the entire company to do.
Stay cool!!!  And enjoy!

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "CULTURES THAT WORK". Can you say... PROFIT?

2. MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY AT WORK OPPORTUNITY

Make sure that everyone around you has chocolate this week. Drop off little candy kisses or M&Ms—leave a note that says from the “Fall” pre-Halloween fairy.

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Because humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy"—a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • Boynton Beach Club – A raucous look at the Over-50 Singles in Florida. Funny, bittersweet. Nice to know that as we age we still want the same kinds of connections in our life. I enjoyed it.
  • Little Miss Sunshine – A bit racy (language) story of a dysfunctional family on a road trip for their youngest child to enter a beauty contest. Everything that can go wrong does, but they pull together. A lot of fun.
