1. HUMOR U TIP #179 – It's Turkey Day Again

By Ann Fry

Isn’t it funny how Turkey Day comes around every year? I mean, why do we so look forward to eating turkey on Thanksgiving, when in reality we could eat it every day if we wanted to? It sort of reminds me of how we wait for special events to celebrate at work…when we could be celebrating every day.

So, how can you celebrate every day? Yes, there are birthdays, there are promotions, there are going away parties. Buts here are a few unique ideas:

Celebrate people wearing orange OR celebrate everyone who got a haircut this week OR celebrate someone who successfully completes a “cold call.” Do you get it? Find any excuse to celebrate. Why? Because celebrations are FUN, they put people in a great mood, they help people connect in a different way. What’s the payoff? Duh – higher morale and a boost in productivity. And, you know what else? Your employees tell their family and their friends that you have a cool workplace. Now there’s a good thing—and it’s not rocket science.

So…humor tip this month—celebrate AND do it in ways that express gratitude. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day…from me to you!

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "CULTURES THAT WORK ." Can you say... PROFIT?

2. MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY AT WORK OPPORTUNITY

Go to the local party shop and buy little Thanksgiving decorations—place them on people’s desks without them knowing. Go in early, before everyone else…so they come in one day and see all these cool little turkeys and Fall décor all over. They’ll be curious—and of course you should NEVER tell them it was you. Let them think it’s one of those “random acts of kindness”.

Of course, you could also dress up as a giant pumpkin or turkey and stroll around the halls—watching people laugh and smile.

It’s up to you…just make others happy!!

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Because humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy"—a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • Prime – Scenario: a therapist soon discovers that her 23 year old son is “involved” with one of her clients (a 37-year-old divorced woman). Chaos occurs, and lots of laughter and sweetness. I just loved this story. It’s about growing up, being a parent, being in love—all the elements.
  • Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit – A delightful cartoon duo…lots of laughter. All I can say is—it’s ingenious and adorable and much more suited to adults than kids. Enjoy!
