1. HUMOR U TIP #178 – The Hot Summer Blues

By Ann Fry

It doesn’t matter where you live these days… it’s steamy, hot, muggy, sweaty. How do you think that impacts people’s moods at work? Probably not well. How about coming up with some really FUN ways to beat the heat and lighten up?

Here are a few ideas to take away the sizzle:

  • Pour ice cubes on people’s desks so they can lie their heads down and cool off.
  • Turn every ceiling fan on high, all going in the same direction and run beneath each – have a race to see who can stand under every fan the fastest.
  • Close the doors and go to the local pool for the afternoon.
  • Buy popsicles for everyone.
  • Put up posters of snow-capped mountains and blizzards.
  • Go to Dairy Queen for Blizzards.

The point: stay cool, calm, relaxed, don’t over-exert yourselves. Be open, laugh, have fun and celebrate the warmth. Remember, four months from now you’ll be complaining that it’s too cold. Are we ever happy?

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "CULTURES THAT WORK ." Can you say... PROFIT?

2. MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY AT WORK OPPORTUNITY

Slide a free movie pass or a Blockbuster gift card or a Starbucks card onto people’s desks… watch them grin when they find them. Let it be anonymous.

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Because humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • March of the Penguins – Yes, it’s sad and moving and touching … and funny too. This documentary really convinced me that I’d rather be a human being any day. These penguins have to work so hard, just to survive. And, they also know how to be playful and enjoy their circumstances. A great family movie with a motivating message.
  • Must Love Dogs – Living and dating in the 21st century.. via the Internet. Cute, realisitic and also unrealistic. A fun “date” movie or just with the girls.
