1. HUMOR U TIP #177 – Let Freedom Sing

By Ann Fry

It’s Fourth of July weekend… and we’re very grateful for the freedoms we are blessed to have. But, are you reeeeallly free? I’m curious about some of you. Are you free to sing at the top of your lungs wherever and whenever you’d like? Are you free to run through the halls, throwing confetti as you go? Are you free to be as creative as you’d like… e.g., can you paint a mural on the wall in the dining room? Are you free to dance by your desk during your coffee break? Are you free to drink whatever kind of coffee (or other drinks) you want at work? Are you free to express yourself authentically at work? If you said "no" to any of these, what are you going to do about it? How can you get more "free" at work (with their blessings, of course)? Perhaps you could become the "designated fun person" at your workplace and set some new standards.

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "cultures that work." Can you say... PROFIT?

2. MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY AT WORK OPPORTUNITY

How about if you just spread some laughter… like contagiously? Everyone you see... Look at them and laugh. They’re sure to laugh back. It will start an epidemic. It doesn’t take much. Perhaps you need to start with a snicker and work up to a laugh—that’s okay, whatever works. See if the laughter spreads all the way up to the Ivory Tower—get your CEO to laugh too.

Enjoy! (Let me know how it goes.)

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Because humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we"ll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • Madagascar – Yes, it’s supposed to be a kid’s movie (but I see them all). But Chris Rock and Ben Stiller—come on. There are some really funny lines here. You’ll be chuckling the whole time.
  • The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – terrific movie… and yes, a "chick flick". A delightful "coming of age" movie. Take your teenaged girls or anyone. A fun, delightful look at friendship!
