1. HUMOR U TIP #173 – Don't Let the Grinch Get the Best of You

By Ann Fry

No matter how much someone tries to be an ogre or a grinch, don't let them ruffle you. Some people just love to try to ruin it for all the rest of us. They're not happy or in the spirit, so they try to push that attitude onto us.

Well, beat them at their game … only for everything they say that's negative, just sling back something positive. It will drive them crazy. Always keep a smile on your face, a lilt in your walk, and whistle a tune, even though you might be ruffled.

If they complain about the weather, tell them it's fantastic. If they complain about the crowds, tell them how much you love standing in line and getting to meet new people. If they whine about too much food and weight gain, tell them how excited you are to join the gym and work it off. In other words, don't give in to them at all. Your positivity will either start to rub off on them or it won't. And, if it doesn't, they aren't any worse off and neither are you!

Have a glorious Christmas (and whatever observance you might celebrate) and a safe and prosperous and FUN New Year!

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "cultures that work." Can you say... PROFIT?

2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS

Last month, I challenged you to keep up the little droppings of items on your co-worker's desk. Did you keep it up? Did they guess it was you? Did you finally tell them? Did you tell people how you feel about them (no … not the bad stuff, only the good stuff)?
Hope it was fun.

Making people happy at work really isn't hard — it's just like a muscle — keep exercising your appreciation for others muscle and it'll get easier and easier!

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" – a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

For you adults, a couple of good comedies (definitely not for the kiddies though):

  • Sideways – Two guys take a trip to the wine country before one of them “ties the knot”. Let's just say they get a whole lot more out of their system then just drinking. (Could be offensive to be people who don't like R rated movies….a caution.)
  • Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason – A good sequel to the original. Seeing Renee Zellweger with a few extra pounds was enough for me — ordinarily she's such a skinny little thing. Nice to see a cute romance, with an overweight woman and have it turn out wonderfully!

Now, for the kiddies … I saw:

  • The Incredibles – Amazing animation … might be a little heavy for kids who are too young, but older kids and adults will love it. Retired superheroes trying to do life.
