1. HUMOR U TIP #172 – Take a Nap; Turkey Day Is Coming

By Ann Fry

I know that turkey day is always a "day off" from work, unless of course, you work for a restaurant, hotel, hospital, police or fire dept., etc. But, for most of us we're off. I also know many companies have a "pot luck" turkey meal sometime this week before Thanksgiving. Here are a couple of tips to maximize that experience:

  • Always eat turkey with your hands … it makes it much more satisfying and fun. Be careful (if at work) not to wipe your hands on the documents on your desk or your keyboard.
  • Eat all that you want. There is no such thing as dieting (except for health issues) on T-day. Get really full.
  • Take a nap. You'll be so full of tryptophan and all the ingredients that you won't be able NOT to take a nap. At work, I suggest renting a bunch of cots for the after T-day meal. Set an alarm and wake them back up after a couple of hours. You might eat and nap in shifts.
  • Somewhere in the process, go up to everyone you care about (yes, even at work) and tell them how much you appreciate them. (If you can't think of how you appreciate them, make it up.)
  • If you're the boss … give everyone a bonus. Then, they'll really have something to be grateful for and they'll know what a great company you have!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving … and remember to laugh a lot as well.

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. They want workplace "cultures that work." Can you say... PROFIT?

2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS

Last month I invited you to leave little droppings on your co-worker's desk. Did you? Thanksgiving is almost here … continue to provide those little droppings to show appreciation of a friend at work. (If you didn't read last month, I know this sounds weird.)

One more thing: For no reason at all, go up to people at work and say, "I love you man" … give them a pat on the back and just say "thanks!" It brings a smile. Guaranteed!

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" – a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

(Not much funny right now, but holiday movies are starting to abound.) Two honorable mentions, however:

  • Ray – If I didn't know there was an actor playing Ray Charles, I'd think it was Ray Charles. An amazing portrayal, great music … not always fun to watch. But totally worth seeing.
  • Alfie – If you're not old enough to remember the original, so be it. But, if you do remember it … the song "What's It All About Alfie" is not at the end of the movie. Bummer. Movie is well done. Alfie is a fun-loving character, but sadly misses out on what most of us hold near and dear in life. Good!
