1. HUMOR U TIP #169 – Seeing the Funny in the Unfunny

There are so many times that things seem "unfunny", so how do you cope with it and make it funny. Well remember, it's all about perspective. Look at a situation and consider all sides of it. How many ways can you look at it? How can you change the way you see it? I suggest the following: First, think of your problem or situation. Get it clear in your mind. Then, ask yourself the following four questions:

  1. How would a 5-year-old deal with it?
  2. How would an 85-year-old deal with it?
  3. How would my favorite comedian deal with it?
  4. How would my pet (cat or dog) deal with it?

When you turn something upside down and inside out to see it differently … then, you can see the humor … the funny in it.

Do this all day long. I promise it will make a difference.

(Have great ideas for laughing in the hallways? Send them to me. I'll put together a huge list and email it to all of you … especially the ideas that don't appear in our Fun At Work booklet. Send to ann@humoru.com).

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. If you make them laugh and keep them happy, they'll "blow the lid" off their productivity and produce breakthrough results! Can you say... KA-CHING?

2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS

When you see people at work looking tired and overwhelmed, plan something nice for them — surprise them. You'll love watching their scowl or exhaustion turn to a smile. Ideas: Well, become a secret pal — place little gifts on their desk (anonymously) OR leave some candy behind OR tell your boss something great about the other person and then have the boss praise them OR take them on a surprise walk around the building OR bring them coffee — whatever will make a difference for them.

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • The Stepford Wives – Old version … some 20 years ago was science fiction and disturbing. New version … a fun spoof. I laughed out loud many times … especially at Bette Midler and Glen Close. Hilarious.
  • Spiderman 2 – Cartoon heroes coming to life is always a fun concept. The special effects here are worth the entry fee AND the underlying love story is gooey. I enjoyed it.
