1. HUMOR U TIP #168 – Why Laugh at Work Anyhow? |
I have so many people say to me, "Ann, who cares if people are happy or laugh at work?" My answer, after I punch them, is … "because they'll make you more money … duh!" If you can't hear people cackling in the hallways or see them smiling, then there's a problem. People are born laughing machines. Remember the song … "Girls just want to have fun!" Well, everyone does. It makes the day go faster, it builds spirit. So, what to do? How do you get them cackling in the hallways? Here's a couple of ideas: You can play kick the can down the hall, do a rolling chair relay race, put huge mylar ballooms outside of everyone's cube with a personal message, toss candy down the hall and watch them scramble, have a treasure hunt, put a hook outside the cube/office for people to hang their best/funniest hats … Need I say more? Just use your imagination. Tap into your creative thinking, ask your kids. They'll know what to do. People will laugh … and then, lest you worry … they'll GO BACK TO WORK … and here's the kicker … they'll be MORE PRODUCTIVE. That's the payoff. (Have great ideas for laughing in the hallways? Send them to me. I'll put together a huge list and email it to all of you … especially the ideas that don't appear in our Fun At Work booklet. Send to ann@humoru.com.) Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. If you make them laugh and keep them happy, they'll "blow the lid" off their productivity and produce breakthrough results! 2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS |
Walk around smiling … for no reason. When people ask you what you're smiling at … say, "I'm just feeling cheerful and happy." See what they do. They look at you weird at first and then, they smile. That's a secret for making work happier. Try it! |
3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS |
Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.
