1. HUMOR U TIP #167 – How to Lighten Up a Meeting

By Ann Fry

I bet you have more meetings in a day than you would like. Right? And I bet many of them are, shall we say, booooring! Well, here's a couple of tips on how to make them more fun.

First, greet everyone at the door with a piece of chocolate and a tip of your hat. (yes, wear a cool hat) Welcome them profusely. Tell them how happy you are that they are there. After they pick their bottom lip up (which fell in shock), they'll be in an altered state. They'll be compliant and maybe even non-robotic at the meeting. You'll have their attention.

Next, once they're seated around the table, engage them in an irrelevant conversation for a few moments, like "How about them Yankees (of course you can use any team name you like) or that movie, Shrek?" Let them talk and schmooze.

Then, serve the pizza. After that, you can do anything you want at the meeting. They'll be "lightened up", fed and satisfied (but only if it's good pizza) and the meeting can commence.

Good luck!

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. If you make them laugh and keep them happy, they'll "blow the lid" off their productivity and produce breakthrough results! Can you say... KA-CHING?

2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS

When was the last time you really acknowledged a worker in the next cube … for nothing in particular … just because? Maybe a little "secret pal" note or toy for their desk. Watch them … you'll be amazed at how it makes their day!

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

Not too many comedies currently, but a couple caught my eye:

  • The Ladykillers – Tom Hanks in quite an unlikely role. Silly movie about robbing a casino. But, Hanks is hilarious as the quirky professor. It's a Coen brothers film and quite irreverent … so be prepared.
  • Starsky and Hutch – A walk down memory lane for those in my age bracket. A fun re-creation of the dynamic, bungling, police duo. The outfits alone made me really laugh out loud.
