1. HUMOR U TIP #165 – Storying Around

By Terrill Fischer

"'Thou shalt not' is soon forgotten, but 'Once upon a time' lasts forever."
—Philip Pullman
(1996 Carnegie Medal acceptance speech)

Have you noticed that theatre touches the audience? That's usually done by creating recognizable situations. Audiences naturally laugh when they recognize things they do, or things they know others do. Hence keeping things truthful is pretty powerful and the truth is often funnier that fiction. Absurdity is usually cheap and not very interesting.

Try "Storying" around: Tell stories walking down the hallways, riding in the elevators, going up or down the stairs. But you must stop the story when you arrive at your destination. You can pick it up again when you leave. This is great for enhancing your story telling ability and adding humor and adventure to everyday situations. And, it's FUN! People get hooked and interested.

Truth: People just want to work for GREAT companies and GREAT managers. If you make them laugh and keep them happy, they'll "blow the lid" off their productivity and produce breakthrough results! Can you say... KA-CHING?

2. HAPPY WORK THOUGHTS

What can you be doing in the hallways at work that would bring a snicker or a smile to others? (Keep it clean, of course.)

3. MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS

Since humor, laughter and FUN are our game, we LOVE movies as a source for those feelings. So, whenever we see a movie that we think is really fun or silly or otherwise worthy of recommendation, we'll cover it here. Movies, by the way, are great "therapy" — a great way to get away from stress and the busy world.

  • Big Fish: A wonderful and "quirky" film about the relationship between a grown son and his Dad. that looks at what's real and what's fantasy. You'll laugh and you'll cry!
  • Something's Gotta Give: Yup, there really is hope for love and romance after 50+. Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton at their best. You'll love it!
  • Peter Pan: What can I say — once again … one of the best stories of all time. I love this new rendition. It's got fabulous special effects and reminds of the joys of youth.
